Every Social Sangha event will contain four elements: arriving, generating intention, the dharma, and socializing.
~ Arriving ~
It is important to take a moment to slow our minds. We may arrive charged or reactive. For this reason, the first 10 minutes of any activity are spent in silence. When we arrive, we quietly join the group in meditation and take a few minutes to generate a calm mind.
~ Generating Intention ~
We will take a moment to remember why we spend time together. The facilator's statement may vary, but this is one possible example:
"Sangha is a community of friends practicing the dharma together in order to bring about and to maintain awareness. The essence of a sangha is awareness, understanding, acceptance, harmony and love."
~ The Dharma ~
The group will then spend 20 to 30 minutes learning or contemplating the dharma (the teachings). This could be a guided meditation, a talk by one of our scheduled teachers or a recorded talk by an established teacher.
~ Socializing ~
Roughly 30 minutes will be dedicated to building relationships by hanging out. This might be having a conversation about the teaching, cooking a meal together, going out for tea, taking a hike, or volunteering together.
